Senhora do Monte
Crowd level: Mixed. Go early, or pick a weekday
Best season April–June, or a clear winter afternoon. Sunset in high summer is the crowded hour. Morning is the coordinate.
This is the high chapel above Graça, looking back at the castle most people are standing on. The terrace is wide. Early, you can hear the parish. At sunset in July you will meet the city, so go at opening light instead.

Local history
The miradouro takes its name from the chapel of Nossa Senhora do Monte, a hilltop hermitage on one of Lisbon’s highest points. The view is the castle from the side the postcards rarely use. You are in Graça, not in a ticket line.
Food nearby
A tasca on the way down
Eat on Calçada da Graça after the view, not a cocktail on the railing. If the terrace only sells spritzes, keep walking until you find a grill and a paper napkin.
Sports, kept small
A roller-hockey night nearby
There is no stadium on the hill. The sporting move is a roller-hockey match in a neighborhood pavilion, not a cross-town derby.
Farms and stands nearby
Meat, eggs, vegetables, and dairy for a kitchen you are cooking in, at a rental or a campsite. A family farm, a farm stand, or a producer market.
